Its recipe has been the same since 1866: 80% corn, 8% rye, 12% malted barley, and iron-free water from Cave Spring. After distillation, Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is mellowed drop by drop over maple charcoal, a process known as "Charcoal Mellowing."

It is matured in Jack Daniel's own white oak barrels, which provide the whiskey with its color and much of its flavor.
